Nature’s Children started planting seeds to grow plants that will support wildlife at school and at home. They hope the sunflower plants will produce many more seeds to help feed the birds!

Yay! It is fun to plant seeds and watch them grow!

The GEHMS Nature’s Children leaders continue to plan for their campaign to involve and inform others in working to “Save the Earth!”

The group decided to start working on inventions. During science/engineering classes all second grade classes will be designing and building inventions to help the environment. Students have chosen to build inventions that will help people recycle, pick up litter and trash, or help plants and animals grow.

Nature’s Children also worked today on slogans and announcements which can be used for posters or during the morning announcements at school. They hope to spread the word about simple ways people can help the earth!

Next time the group hopes to begin writing a storyboard for a “Save the Earth” video production!

Nature’s Children Group has just been established by an enthusiastic group of second grade students who want to help the world by cleaning up the earth!

The first planning meeting was held today in our school science lab.

Here are the goals to help clean up the earth:

• Clean up trash in a fun way at recess!
• Plant seeds!
• Grow food!
• Make All-School announcements!
• Make a video!
• Build inventions!

This is the fourth week of collecting recycled paper from all the classes on the second floor. This week we collected nearly 200 pounds of paper.  Let’s keep up the great work!

 

In addition to collecting recycled paper, the 3rd grade classes have been busy studying how we get our water.

In honor of H2O, this week’s “Go Green” tip is:  When you brush your teeth, turn off the tap to help save water!

GEHMS improves paper recycling this week!

 

Last Monday marked the start of the third week of collecting recycled paper from all the classes on the second floor. During the first week, we collected 130 pounds of paper. In Week 2 we collected over 100 pounds more bringing our total to 250 pounds of paper. In Week 3, we collected over 200 pounds of paper.

Let’s keep up the good work!

This week’s “Go Green” tip is: If you have an older brother, sister, or friend, have them give you their old sports equipment or clothes. This will allow you to reuse these items instead of throwing them away.

This is the second week of collecting recycled paper from all the classes on the second floor. Last week we collected 130 pounds of paper. This week we collected over 200 pounds of paper. Let’s recycle even more next week!

Here’s another “Go Green” tip: When you are packing a lunch, pack reusable containers instead of plastic bags. This will cut down on the amount of plastic in our landfills.

This week marks the 2014 kickoff for our 3rd grade recycling collection. From all the classes on the 2nd floor, we collected over 130lbs. of recycled paper. Let’s shoot for more next week!

Here’s a quick “Go Green” Tip:
When you’re sick and need to blow your nose, use a handkerchief instead of a tissue! This will cut down on the amount of tissues in landfills.
